As Domestic Violence Awareness Month Come to a Close, New Novel Offers Uplifting Insight on Overcoming Abuse
Masheri Chappelle's new novel "The Descendant" provides hope, insight and a compelling look inside one family's cycle of abuse.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN, October 31, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As October's Domestic Violence Awareness Month comes to a close, the egregious wrongs of millions of abused American women are on the forefront of the Nation's collective consciousness. A new novel provides an uplifting and empowering story of one woman's rise above abuse perpetrated within her family over generations. "The Descendant" (Langdon Street Press, ISBN 978-1-934938-25-6, November 2, 2009, $17.95) combines a rich family saga with heartbreakingly honest characters and a wise spirituality. By portraying the horrors of abuse while framing them in their larger multigenerational context, "The Descendant" brings a truly original and necessary perspective to the way family, love and violence are understood.
"The Descendant" is the first in a planned trilogy that chronicles the life of Penny, a modern day African and Native American intuitive and healer, and the women that came before her. Much of "The Descendant" takes place before Penny is born as her unborn soul watches over the three generations of women that precede her birth in 1958. She watches as these women face countless struggles, victories and defeats, from the crushing realities of racism to their heartfelt searches for love. When Penny enters the story in the flesh, her mystical and spiritual abilities are apparent early on, abilities her parents find very threatening. As they seek to dominate, control and destroy her, Penny unleashes a power they cannot touch or control. A struggle for truth begins as Penny seeks to deliver her family from its own abusive cycles and present the gift she was born to give.
A gifted healer, intuitive and consultant, "The Descendant"'s author Masheri Chappelle brings soulful insight to her writing, incorporating lessons learned throughout her life. She is the first ever graduate of the Guilford ABC program in Guilford, Connecticut and graduate of Smith College. Chappelle currently resides in Connecticut.
