"Tales of a Traveling Salesman" takes a look back at one man's unique experience in the worlds "second oldest profession".
MINNEAPOLIS, MN, December 19, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Out this holiday season, Tales of a Traveling Salesman (Two Harbors Press, ISBN 978-1-935097-70-9, December 2009, 13.95) by Tom Faxvog offers a close look inside the life of traveling salesmen, and a look back at significant era in American capitalism that may be coming to a close. Faxvog drew directly from his own career as a traveling salesman in crafting the semi-autobiographical work, putting on paper the complex and entertaining experiences of salesmen both then and now.
Tales of a Traveling Salesman touches on every aspect of the life of a salesman through stories that are as informative and insightful as they are humorous and nostalgic. Looking into the past, Faxvog highlights the hilarious tall tales that have long been tied to traveling salesmen, in addition to shedding light on their humble beginnings. The sacrifices and challenges faced by traveling salesmen are apparent in every chapter, from their poor working conditions, to grueling hours and frequent loneliness. Moving forward, Faxvog looks at how selling has evolved from the 20th to the 21st century, taking a look at how technology has changed the world's 'second oldest profession.' More than a sales training manual, but rife with selling tips, and more than the history of selling, but rich with historical context, Tales of a Traveling Salesman is a must read for those who remember the heyday of the traveling salesman and the road warriors of today.
Tales of a Traveling Salesman is an honest, funny and nostalgic peak inside the life of an American icon. As these cornerstones of mid-twentieth century American culture begin to fade away, their stories take on a new mythic quality as they enter the cannon of Americana.
