Pagoda Dreamer Chronicle's One Woman's Life through the Letters She Left Her Daughter
Author Judith March Davis vividly recreates her mother's life through the letters she left behind in Pagoda Dreamer.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN, December 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Every parent thinks about what they will leave for their children, what legacy they can leave as a final gift. Author Judith March Davis's mother left her a lifetime of letters, and a chance to understand her mother more completely, and in her own words. Her new novel, Pagoda Dreamer (Langdon Street Press, ISBN 978-1-934938-90-4, January 1, 2010, 15.95), vividly tells her mother's story through these letters, painting a portrait of a strong, independent woman who lived life on her own terms.
Pagoda Dreamer begins with Davis's mother Dorothy's formative years in China in the early 1900s, a time and place where women were expected to be seen and not heard. Dorothy, or Dore as she was more commonly known, refused to bow to the social constraints of her time. This confident, independent spirit saw her through many challenges: losing a child, two husbands, and almost her own life to tuberculosis. Throughout her life, her time in China stayed close to her heart and she dreamed of returning before her addiction to alcohol cut her life short.
Written with the same passion and fervor her mother had for life, Davis crafts a deeply moving biography of her mother. For more information on Pagoda Dreamer visit http://www.pagodadreamer.com/.
