Los Angeles MTA Bus and Metro Blue Line Commuter Train Collision
Multiple bus passengers and both drivers were injured during their morning commute on July 30 when their MTA bus was struck nearly head-on by a Blue Line train in Los Angeles.

August 01, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Multiple bus passengers and both drivers were injured during their morning commute on July 30 when their MTA bus was struck nearly head-on by a Blue Line train between the San Pedro and Grand stops at the downtown intersection of Washington and Broadway. Los Angeles paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 7 a.m. to find the bus pushed sideways and up against the entry of a nearby building. The bus showed evidence of impact at the front end opposite the driver, with a shattered front window and damaged passenger entryway.

Some passengers were taken to the hospital for further assessment of their injuries. An MTA spokesperson on the scene characterized the injuries as minor, and there were no reports of injuries to passengers on the train. Investigations of the accident will consider such causes as driver error, signal failures and braking system defects. Witness accounts and electronic data can play a vital role in determining if negligence or recklessness by either driver or another motorist caused the accident.
